Sticky Bamboo Installation in Hawaii

The sticky installation by Hongtao Zhou and graduate students in Hawaii reflects a sense of organic strength and living energy that encompasses Hawaii’s tropical climate. The sculpture is located at the Haigo and Irene Shen Gallery in the University of Hawaii Manoa’s school of architecture, and it explores the possibilities of surreal spatial experiences. Using recycled bamboo poles and cardboard, the form is reminiscent of the roots of a banyan tree, and the structure emphasizes change and aesthetic manipulation of space, while also highlighting the possibilities of architecture, organic, and sustainable processes.
